My
name is Maureen and at present I live at Greenwich,
London. I have spent most of my life in teaching,
formation and in administration.
I am still in touch with many of my former
students from the various schools in which
I taught.
In the year 2000 I visited the Philippines
to help Sr Johanna with her project for the
homeless and scavenger people in Payatas.
It was a humbling and challenging experience
for me in so many ways. |

Maureens
friend is Johanna.
Johanna is an Indonesian Ursuline working
in the Philippines. She visited England in
2000 to support our campaign to help her project.
She returned late June a few days before disaster
struck the Payatas Smokey Valley
when hundreds of her extended family
perished in a landslide of rubbish which engulfed
them all.
Johanna could usually be seen around Payatas
with her trademark baseball cap for a sunshield.
Her work has now been extended to cover the
island of Mindanao as well as on Luzon where
Payatas is situated on the outskirts of Manila.
Johanna works with children with multiple
handicaps, many of whom have been abandoned
by their families.
I am privileged to have such a person as my
friend across the world working for justice
in the Kingdom. |
