I am Frances and I was born in London, where I spent most of my school years. When I was 22 I became a Roman Catholic, having previously been a committed Baptist.

My first work was as a laboratory technician, but on coming into contact with the Ursuline Sisters I trained as a teacher and later joined the Ursuline Order.

As an Ursuline sister my work has been varied with teaching, administration and formation taking a large portion of my time. At present I have responsibility for two communities in South East England.

Francess friend is Edith.

My friend Edith, is an Ursuline sister in the Netherlands. She was born in Echt, the village where Edith Stein lived for a few years in the Carmelite Convent, before she was taken to the concentration camp in Auschwitz.

Edith was educated by the Ursulines until she went to training college. After finishing studies she taught for a while in a secondary school. At that time Edith realised that education was to be part of her future life and this led her to enter the Ursulines at the age of 25.

Edith spent many years teaching in the schools in the Netherlands. Nowadays there are no Ursuline schools left in Holland. Edith is at present in administration for the Dutch Province of the Ursulines.
